Discussion Baker Public Library Commentary

"...Andrew Carnegie's philanthropy gave many cities and towns their first permanent library buildings. These buildings came with strings attached: A city had to provide a suitable site for the building and support a public library annually at a cost of at least 10 percent of the Carnegie grant."

— Oregon Library Association, http://www.olaweb.org/quarterly/quar2-1/carnegie.shtml
